Speaker: Bruce Jacobs

Presentation 1:  "Leaking The Truth"  How to Use Behavioral Analysis to assess credibility or deception using 5 channels of communication.  Includes one hour of Ethics" (2 hrs CPE including 1 hour of Ethics)

Description:  Understanding what people are truly thinking and feeling is a valuable skill.  Non-verbal communication and verbal communication combine  to communicate our intentions whether we are aware of it or not.   Our behavior and language naturally reveal deception through micro-expressions, body gestures, and changes in voice and words. This occurs because of a conflict between cognitive thought and emotional feelings.  With proper training, you can learn to recognize these clues of deception or genuine emotion in both your personal and professional interactions.  There will also be a segment on ethical judgment when using the investigative techniques discussed.

Bruce Jacobs is a retired veteran of the Manitowoc Police Department in Wisconsin and a Licensed Private Investigator, specializing as an expert witness in all five channels of communication. His career includes extensive experience with ICAC, resulting in numerous arrests of pedophiles, and he has conducted approximately 10,000 interviews across a range of cases including homicide, robbery, burglary, rape, and internet crimes against children.

Bruce holds a bachelor's degree in administration of justice and is certified in Micro Expressions, Behavioral Analysis, Statement Analysis, Scientific Content Analysis, CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design), Security Surveys, Workplace Violence Prevention, and Scams. For 35 years, he has delivered presentations on these topics to enhance awareness, safety, and understanding of others' thoughts.

Presentation 2:

Speakers: Nicholas Rice, IRS Criminal Investigation

Title: Where the Numbers Don’t Lie:  Financial Investigations and the Battle Against Fraud, Waste, and Abuse

Nicholas Rice is a Supervisory Special Agent with IRS Criminal Investigation based in the Houston Field Office. In this leadership role, he heads a team of special agents within the Houston/East Texas Homeland Security Task Force, focusing on high-profile investigations involving identity theft, public corruption, money laundering, complex fraud, and tax crimes often in collaboration with state, federal, and international law enforcement agencies. Nicholas began his career with IRS-CI in 2000 in the New Orleans Field Office. Over the years, he has served in various capacities across multiple locations, including Las Vegas, Nevada; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and New York City. Nicholas holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance and a Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting. He is also a Certified Fraud Examiner and a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist, underscoring his expertise in financial crime investigation.
